Our Peripheral Intervention (PI) business unit offers a comprehensive range of medical products, devices and services for the treatment of peripheral arterial and venous disease, cancer detection, and end-stage renal disease and maintenance.
About the role
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with the broader development team to complete NPD, sustaining or continuous improvement projects. Responsibilities involve applying engineering standards, technical experience, and industry knowledge to craft and develop components, mechanisms, systems, and finished products or equipment. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will contribute to system/sub-system development, requirements generation, test method development and communication of results through written reports, design reviews and technical discussions. They are self-motivated and responsible for exercising sound judgment and applying systems thinking, problem-solving, and troubleshooting to generate technical solutions to key problem statements.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a key member of the mechanical team, with responsibilities to work effectively with the broader cross-functional development team to progress project activities. They own and are responsible for the delivery of key elements/sub-systems of the mechanical product.
Main responsibilities will include:
Working as part of the Mechanical R&D Engineering team to design and develop multi-disciplinary (mechanical, electrical, and fluidic) products for medical and life science applications.
Plan, coordinate, design, and analyse data of technical experiments at all stages of development including design of experiments activities for characterization, prototype testing, and qualification.
Engage with domain experts to integrate subsystems and verify device designs.
Support risk management activities such as Failure Modes Effects Analysis.
Support the efforts to create system/sub-system requirements, design specifications, and test methods for the new products.
Work with internal collaborators such as service and manufacturing on an ongoing basis during the development and product enhancement stages to ensure manufacturability and serviceability of design solutions.
Utilise Design for Six Sigma tools as appropriate to enhance the product design, ensure statistical significance of testing and data generated and drive concept selection in a structured and communicative way.
Design and produce manufacturing drawings of complex electromechanical instrumentation and test fixtures.
Ability to plan and execute own work independently and provide guidance and technical support to more junior Mechanical team members.
About you
Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
5+ years’ experience working in a Mechanical Engineering role, with a strong background in Computer-Aided Design (SolidWorks, CREO, Similar)
Hands-on experience building and testing breadboards, prototypes and production-level instruments.
Experience with interdisciplinary systems, including electromechanical, software and fluidic systems.
Demonstrated capability of working collaboratively on complex projects with a diverse group of fields.
Experience with data acquisition, analysis, and statistical approaches, such as DFSS.
Knowledge of applicable international standards (IEC 60601, ISO 13485)
Additional Qualifications/Skills
Knowledge of manufacturing methods and their associated capabilities/limitations.
Experience in GD&T and Tolerance Stack Analysis
Experience in Change Controls in a regulated environment, managing large assemblies and supplier interactions.
DFX experience in design for sheet-metal, injection molded component designs. Experience in DFM for single-use assemblies.
Experience throughout the entire product life cycle, from feasibility through to Launch phase.
