Summary
Provides technical assistance to physicians performing endovascular procedures. Assists in all aspects of interventional procedure including prepping patients for procedures, sterilely preparing procedure rooms, selecting and organizing equipment needed for specific procedures, assisting with catheterization, providing radiation protection to both patient and physician during fluoroscopic procedures, monitoring patients’ vital signs and health statuses during procedures, maintaining adequate supplies and inventory control of department resources, and ensuring safe and effective operation of all equipment used in procedures.
Responsibilities
Assists physicians by setting up and operating all peripheral vascular equipment utilized during procedures; operates hemodynamic monitoring equipment and assists physicians during catheterizations and other invasive procedures.
Provides patient care by evaluating patient conditions prior to procedures, transporting patients as necessary, and positioning them on treatment tables.
Maintains patient safety by monitoring condition of patients, monitoring medications and medical devices, and taking appropriate action if complications arise.
Ensures adequate supply levels are available at all times; places orders when required; manages inventory; prepares instruments for sterilization and communicates pertinent information regarding inventory needs, instrument repairs, etc., to appropriate personnel.
Prepares patients for procedures by obtaining demographic information, explaining procedures, preparing patients, and assisting physicians as requested.
Assists physicians with procedures by passing and operating forceps, snares, and other vascular instruments; retrieves and collects specimens; and performs vascular ultrasound imaging.
Coordinates the scheduling of patients and ancillary support services such as radiology, laboratory, etc.; communicates with hospital staff to coordinate patient flow and schedule changes.
Maintains professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, workshops, conferences, and related activities; participates in committees, task forces, and special projects as assigned.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, patients, families, and visitors.
Assumes charge role as designated; assumes primary responsibility for supervision of department operations when manager/supervisor not present.
Qualifications
Graduate of accredited program in Radiologic Technology or Cardiovascular Technology (CVT)
Minimum three years experience in peripheral vascular interventions preferred.
Knowledgeable in operation of fluoroscopy equipment and peripheral vascular equipment required.
Excellent communication skills.
Basic computer knowledge.
Experience with billing/order entry a plus.
Ability to travel occasionally (<10%).
