Sr. Molding Technician
Job Description Summary
Diagnose, correct, and prevent problems related to plastic injection process, as well as to execute PM activities to molding machines. Works with Sr. Molding Engineer to maintain molds/machines and peripherical equipment ready for production and maintain documentation required.Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up assigned molds, machines, and auxiliary equipment (water thermoregulator, dryers, robots, mold heaters, etc.) including changing tools, verifying materials, performing basic level of preventive mold maintenance, and machine safety verifications and maintaining updated documentation.
- Monitor assigned work cell observing overall process and quality of molded parts. Diagnose and fix the root causes of quality issues. Make required adjustments to the machine and controls to maintain proper quality and cycle efficiency.
- Document all machine adjustments on process run sheets and maintain a valid process.
- Knowledge of molding processes, experience working with molding thermoplastic resin and LSR, machines, and auxiliary equipment.
- Diagnosis and correction of faults in injection machines Arburg, BOY, Nissei, Engel, and auxiliary equipment. (PLC, Vision System)
- Perform a machinery and auxiliary equipment preventive/corrective maintenance keeping PM documentation updated.
- Interpret (readings) electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams to correct faults.
- Familiarize the machine operators with the equipment.
- Communicate with the production leader to follow up on the programming of model changes, with the tool room, and the lead operator to ensure efficient operation.
- Comply with all department attendance and performance policies.
- Comply with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.
- Comply with all BD local quality policies, procedures and practices, through the consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.
- Other department duties assigned by the Engineering Department
Qualifications:
- Electromechanical Technical Degree
- 3–5 years of minimum experience in plastic processing, electrical/pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams, general mechanic.
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to solving troubleshooting process.
- Selected candidates must possess moderate mathematical skills (Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure, using common numbers, common fractions, and decimals).
- Must be able to demonstrate basic computer knowledge – ability to work with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft office.
- Experience in scientific molding/Kaizen Methodology/5S
- Change molds, material handling, operate an injection molding machine.
- This person will be required to fill in for the shift supervisor on occasions, knowledge, and ability to use measuring equipment such as calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, micrometers, comparator, and shop machinery such as lathes, mills and crane/hoist, forklift experience is preferred.
