About the role:
The Becton Dickinson Software Technology Solutions Division (STS) seeks a technical Associate Director of Software Engineering focused on building and maintaining a software platform to enable our product teams to innovate and our BD customers to engage in a single BD experience.
This position requires an enthusiastic leader with a rare mix of intelligence, integrity, and technical skill that allows you to focus on building a team through mentoring, coaching, hiring, and solving challenging technical problems.
This collaborative position will partner with and advise multiple teams by understanding needs of product teams, creating a culture of software excellence, growth mindset, and delivering value.
Responsibilities:
• Build, lead and manage teams of high performing software engineers to design, build, and scale software platform services, ensuring it meets business needs and technical requirements.
• Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and modern software development practices.
• Take on key department wide initiatives, working with a variety of cross functional stakeholders to improve the overall technical capabilities within the organization
• Identify, attract, and develop a team of talented software engineers
• Lead execution of multiple teams and efforts on the software platform
• Ensure application of API-first design principles to build modular, reusable, and well-documented services.
• Coordinate with software teams, product management, program management to build effective plans on action to execute on product roadmap and business timelines.
• Champion Domain-Driven Design (DDD) in the architecture and implementation of services, ensuring strong domain models and boundary context.
• Ensure the best practices in Software engineering, CI/CD pipelines, testing, and monitoring to maintain high-quality releases.
• Collaborate closely with product management, architecture, and other cross-functional teams to ensure seamless delivery of features.
• Work in a collaborative environment to ensure a shared understanding of complex topics.
• Contribute to and lead process improvement initiatives across the entire department.
• Focused “results” orientation. Clearly able to distinguish efforts from results.
Experience Required
• 10+ years of software development experience, with at least 5+ years in a leadership or management role.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
• Proven, hands-on experience with running production workloads in AWS cloud services in including serverless computing and teams responsible for handling.
• Experience in programming languages (Go, Java, .Net).
• Deep understanding of API-first development and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
• Familiarity with cloud microservice architectures
• Experience with CI/CD wpractices, shift left automated testing, and monitoring for cloud-native applications.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on delivering scalable, maintainable, and high-performing solutions.
