Job Description Summary

Responsible for process capability, cost reduction and continuous improvement project implementation within their designated manufacturing unit. Provides specialized technical knowledge for Cell Culture, Antibody Purification, Conjugation, Lab Support, and Dye Operations to solve problems, improve efficiency, and ensure successful implementation of projects, new products, and Quality objectives.
Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Responsibilities

  • Guide, mentor, and support associates in the manufacturing unit, fostering their development in continuous improvement methodologies, project management, and root cause analysis.

  • Understands top losses within the manufacturing unit and develops and implements plans to eliminate losses and drive OEE performance improve efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Acts as project manager and driving force for projects (may include customer complaints), coordinating the interactions between Manufacturing, QC, Sustaining, R&D, and QA to ensure on time execution to the project, identify and work through barriers that hinder progress.

  • Work with Subject Matter Experts to troubleshoot, identify, and resolve issues in the manufacturing process.

  • Understands top losses within the manufacturing unit and develops and implements plans to eliminate losses and drive OEE performance improve efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Responsible for manufacturing unit change control including validation activities, root cause analysis, and quality events and deviations.

  • Utilize Six Sigma principles (DMAIC approach, SIPOC, Process Capability, Root Cause Analysis, Normal and Non-Normal data Statistical Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Design of Experiments) to analyze data,

  • Coordinate and carry out necessary documentation, training, qualification, and validation activities to support new or modified process changes or deviations.

  • Perform Risk Assessments to ensure safety of all associates and quality of product.

  • Ensures new manufacturing processes and process improvements meet Manufacturing Unit objectives.

  • Analyzes current state of equipment and process efficiency to drive OEE improvement and sustainability.

  • Engages leadership and stakeholders to obtain support and buy in for changes. Partners with management, project leaders, and process owners to align process improvement initiatives with business objectives.

  • Work collaboratively with multi-functional teams including product design and development personnel to ensure that processes and designs meet operational requirements, regulatory requirements and are compatible with manufacturing capabilities.

  • Promote a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.

  • Other responsibilities or projects to support the needs of the business.

This position has the following minimum educational requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED: Required

  • BA/BS Degree: Required- Life Sciences, Chemistry

  • MS Degree: Preferred- Life Sciences, Chemistry

Experience

  • 10+ years relevant industry experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional projects, minimum 3 years

  • Experience with quality systems and guidelines (e.g., GLP, GMP, ISO) essential

  • Experience with Six Sigma methodology and statistical analysis (e.g., Minitab) is essential; Six Sigma certification is essential

  • Experience with CAPA investigation/root case analysis procedures is essential

  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., project dashboard, COPQ), methodologies, and best practices is essential; Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus

  • SAP experience is highly desirable
