This role provides flexibility to work 4 days on site in Washington, DC and Friday remotely on a weekly basis.

Overview

To ensure our customers and the patients they serve have optimal access to our technologies, we strive to continually identify opportunities for the business to maintain, gain and expand coverage for life saving medical devices. The Associate Director will be an integral part of the Central Market Access team reporting to the Senior Director, Market Access and Payment Policy. This individual’s primary responsibility will be to monitor, analyze and disseminate critical payment policy information specific to BD’s various business units. Possessing strong familiarity with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid’s (CMS) payment systems, the related rule making processes, as well as the Quality Reporting and Value-Based Programs will be critically important to advancing payment policy initiatives. The incumbent will also collaborate closely with BD Public Affairs colleagues to support engagement with a broad set of policymakers, including but not limited to Members of Congress and the Dept. of Health and Human Services. As part of a global team, the incumbent will also have exposure to regional and country level market access initiatives and will aid in the coordination of key activities and messaging to business unit leaders.

This individual will work closely with Market Access colleagues supporting respective business units and the broader Public Affairs team to drive the following key capabilities:

  • Execute on key imperatives with the Sr. Director, Market Access & Payment Policy and other business unit Market Access leads, advancing optimal coding, payment and coverage of targeted products

  • Elevate BD’s understanding of key risks and opportunities related to the U.S. healthcare landscape through ongoing monitoring of federal health and payment policy trends

  • Advise on changes to and opportunities within U.S. value and quality payment programs, as well as participating in critical workstreams to advance adoption of key technologies by leveraging existing opportunities

  • Quarterback Market Access team engagement with AdvaMed’s payment policy working groups as well as coordinating involvement with the Medical Device Innovation Consortium to ensure a cohesive approach

  • Provide critical support and coordination for CMS’ notice and comment periods, working closely with Market Access colleagues to ensure business perspectives are being addressed

  • Monitor global market access developments and participate in engagements with relevant trade associations such as MedTech Europe and ALDIMED

  • Inform and drive a coordinated approach to global payer engagement strategies, as well as coding and payment initiatives

  • Communicate complex topics and concepts in a way that may be understood by a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, fostering effective collaboration and discussion to advance business goals

  • Work closely and collaboratively with BD’s Public Affairs team to advance Congressional activities impacting payment policy initiatives

  • Build new and maintain existing relationships with medical societies and academies as well as physician thought leaders

Education

  • BA/BS degree required; advanced degree preferred

Experience

  • 7+ years of market access, payment policy and reimbursement experience required

  • Experience engaging with or working for medical societies, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), commercial health plans, and/or Members of Congress

  • Familiarity navigating and participating in CMS’ rule making process

  • Solid understanding of market access principles and US health policy; strong working knowledge of managed care (Medicare Advantage and Medicaid MCOs) is highly desirable

  • Experience leading health care coding applications (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) and navigating CMS’ various payment systems

  • Track record of securing reimbursement for health care products through the creation of tactical and strategic market access plans is highly desirable, either domestically or internationally

  • External, customer-facing experience is required

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • A self-starter with the ability to think strategically and execute consistently

  • Previous experience working on, or with government relations teams

  • Demonstrated track record of being able to lead cross-functional initiatives effectively

  • Analytical, problem solving, persuasive ability to develop and implement strategic plans

  • Travel: <15% will be required
