About the role

As the new Country Business Leader (CBL), you will be fully P&L accountable for BD’s Biosciences business (BDB) in the UK&I, providing direct leadership to the BDB team including dedicated Commercial and Customer/Technical Support associates, identifying growth opportunities and implementing plans to realize the opportunities.

In this role, you will sit at the center of BD's matrix organization and will closely collaborate with and coordinate between the European BDB teams and BD UK businesses.

You will report to the Country General Manager UK&I and the VP/GM BDB EMEA, working as a member of the BDB EMEA Leadership Team as well as the UK&I Leadership Team, with a team of circa 25 people.

Main responsibilities will include:

Business & Marketing Strategy:

  • With the mentorship from BDB EMEA VP/GM, VP/GM UK & Ireland and BDB Europe Marketing builds, communicates and engages the team in the vision and strategy for BDB UK & Ireland

  • Captures and evaluates market trends, needs and opportunities in the countries, recommends and drive implementation of respective commercial priorities/solution.

  • Leads the development and implementation of commercial planning.

  • Engages the organization around the goals and objectives.

  • Further develops the organizational capabilities in order to meet ambitious business targets.

  • Develops an organization that will embrace change, new initiatives and will be ready for future challenges.

Strategy Execution / Commercial Implementation (P&L accountability):

  • Ensures the development of exciting but achievable operating plans and budgets for BDB in the UK & Ireland

  • Is accountable for overall BDB UK performance to budget.

  • Provides effective commercial reporting to European and UK leaders.

  • Leads the implementation of marketing and sales plans, new product launch plans, pricing, working in close collaboration with European business teams to ensure effective leverage of resources and capabilities.

  • Monitors and coordinates short and long term market and business trends and ensures translation into reliable short, medium and long-term plans (from operational forecasting to market development).

  • Proactively supervises the financial performance of BDB and any deviations from critical project plans. Ensures implementation of any vital contingency plans and/or corrective actions to effectively mitigate risks.

Customer relationship

  • Develops appropriate understanding of local customers’ needs through ongoing interaction with key accounts and through industry leaders.

  • Develops/keeps contacts with professionals as well as with key opinion leaders.

  • Maintains contacts with key decision makers in the purchasing groups.

  • Manages contacts with governmental institutions and key professional trade association and organizations.

Team and People Leadership

  • Provides leadership and mentors the BDB country organization to deliver results, improve skills and  manages   ongoing change.

  • Develops and implements an interpersonal plan which defines; the capabilities vital to support the business in the medium to long-term; ensures that the organization remains structurally flexible and competitive and capable of adapting to change.

  • Focus on attracting, retaining, motivating & developing talent.

  • Builds own succession plan and identifies and develops succession plans for critical roles.            

About you:

Eye For Business

You bring the ability to integrate an understanding of sound business and financial fundamentals with in-depth knowledge of our market and industry, with proven experience in sales, marketing and business management, including full P&L accountability.

Additionally, you will also have a track record of success in the medical devices' market and/or in the diagnostics field, built on an extensive network of KOL and scientific societies, and a strong business ethics.

As CBL, you will build driven and breakthrough strategies and plans, anticipating future consequences and trends accurately, and translating vision into clear and realistic plans.

You will be capable of quickly achieve a thorough understanding of the business opportunities for BD and adapt business models to a constantly-evolving market and regulatory environment.

In the position, you will consistently strive to achieve bold targets, and will steadfastly push self and others for results, showing the ability to effectively lead, coordinate and deploy human, technical and financial resources to achieve business plans.

Additionally, is key to understand the complexities within the organization; using appropriate methods, resources and the partnership of others to accomplish objectives.

Willingness to expose oneself to new, diverse, ambiguous or sophisticated situations is also significant to succeed as CBL, being able to deep dive and get better understanding and rapidly adapting and identifying key levers of success, learning from past experiences, sharing knowledge and applying it to new challenges and environment.

Also about you:

  • Educated to degree level in a Life Sciences field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA and/or MSc degree preferred.

  • Ability and willingness to undertake travel in country, within EMEA on a regular basis and international travel on occasion.
