Job Description Summary

The Transportation Planner’s main responsibility is the scheduling of outbound customer shipments for assigned DC(s) while utilizing  SAP, JDE, and BD's Transportation Management System to select an appropriate carrier to meet BD's and our customer's service requirements. Additional responsibilities include managing the inbound transportation routing and scheduling for BD plants, sterilizers, and distribution centers.

Duties and Responsibilities

• The transportation planner is an essential team member in the North American Supply Chain Organization’s success each day.

• BD’s Transportation Planners are responsible for the building, planning, and booking of outbound shipments from our North American Distribution Centers, Manufacturing plants and Sterilizers. Transportation Planners balance customer needs, a portfolio of carrier partners/contacts, and special shipment requirements in order to not only deliver the highest outbound efficiency possible, but also while locking in the best financial option possible for BD.

• This customer centric focus, coupled with an eye on delivering cost savings whenever possible, are why the Transportation Planner role is crucial to operational success and BD’s development goals across the board.     

• An example of the Transportation Planner’s strategic orientation can be seen when Transportation Planners must prep outbound loads for customers with specific outbound requirements.

• If a customer can only receive within the hours of a tight window, on a specific day of the week, while only being available to process freight from one carrier’s specific delivery options, our planner will balance all needs and book with the proper carrier to ensure no requests are missed.

• All planning is done while having a responsibility to meet critical BD metrics (appointed loads, on time delivery, etc.) and at the best possible cost to the company as a whole.

Requirements

Education and Experience

• Degree level qualification; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation or related field with 2+years Planning/Procurement/Logistics/Operations experience or Associates degree, or 5 years’ experience without a degree.

Knowledge

• SAP

• JDE (asset)
