Optimization Lead

Job Description Summary

The Lead is responsible to oversee slotting strategies in the warehouse in the safest, most cost effective, and operationally efficient manner coordinating the workflow for a team of employees in the distribution center and maximize production efficiency through effective labor management analysis, establishment of engineered labor standards, performance tracking and coaching while maintaining system related logic that directly impacts DC labor performance and staff planning.

Responsibilities

  • As part of a collaborative team, participate in the ongoing design, configuration and reporting for the new Labor Management System (LMS).

  • Solve Labor Management System issues as needed, identifying gaps in the design, and exploring alternatives to mitigate any gaps and drive the prompt resolution of issues.

  • Identify critical reporting needs to develop in the SCI framework that ensure functionality and drive operational efficiencies while providing visibility to managers not only within the DC, but also to NA Distribution leadership.

  • Serve as a technical resource for DC operations.

  • Partner with Distribution Center management and continuous improvement LEAN teams to identify, implement and support process improvement projects focused on cost reduction and improvements in safety and quality. Create and recommend optimal solutions that meet the needs of senior management or business leaders.

  • Provides training throughout DC to all team members, and answer questions.

  • Applies analytic methods and tools to understand, predict, and/or control operations and processes as requested by business owners on an ad-hoc basis.

  • Determine Placement of new items in the warehouse.

  • Create range group slotting maintenance layouts using best business rules.

  • Ensure that all active items have a forward pick location assignment or dynamic location assignment.

  • Use item forecast information to assist inbound and outbound functional areas With slotting best pick paths

  • Analyze aisle movements and make necessary adjustments to enhance productivity & capacity.

  • Balance efficiencies between shipping and receiving to maximize overall capacity & efficiency.

  • Create layout/environment that minimizes damage and shrink.

  • Maintain slotting related system logic and suggest modifications as necessary.

  • Ensures safety and security processes are followed.

  • Maintains an acceptable work area as outlined in SOP and work instructions.

  • Responsible for following Good Documentation Practices (GDP) as outlined in SOP.

  • Must follow all safety instructions to maintain safe working conditions and to adhere to proper operating practices and procedures designed to prevent injuries and illnesses. 

  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

  • Must adhere to attendance policies.

  • Required to maintain current status in C2C training modules.

MHE

  • Material handling equipment must be operated in a safe manner by designated associates only.  All damage and/or maintenance issues must be reported immediately. 

  • Equipment must be kept neat and orderly in compliance with established procedures. 

Safety and Security

  • Associates are responsible for performing their job activities in a safe and reasonable manner and in accordance with safety requirements.

  • Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse and conduct all activities in a manner that promotes a safe environment. 

  • All injuries, accidents, unsafe acts, hazards or conditions must be reported immediately. 

  • Report any suspicious persons or activity.

Quality

  • Understand organizational quality goals.

Sanitation and Housekeeping

  • Maintain a clean and professional image. 

  • To ensure the cleanliness of the facility, follow guidelines as outlined.

  • The associate must maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area at all times.

Hazmat Training

  • This associate may be provided with Hazmat training to include general awareness, function specific, security awareness, security plan and safety training.

Job Requirements

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Self- Starter is a must!

  • Lean Tools experience (3 years)

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Forklift Certification required.

  • Three or more years of manufacturing, distribution or related work experience.

  • Must have knowledge of inventory and WMS.

  • Knowledge of GMP/SOP/Work Instructions and be able to develop techniques to ensure adherence to quality standards. 

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and show leadership abilities all while maintaining a team atmosphere.

  • Ability to work well with others and direct their work activities as required.

  • May be required to work a flexible schedule.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions (Per the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990).  While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to episodes of walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, balancing, crouching, reaching, pushing/pulling, grasping, hearing, twisting, lifting, frequent use of hand to finger, handle, feel, pick or type which can include repetitive motion of the wrists, hands or fingers.  The associate may occasionally be required to climb. The job may require lifting over 50lbs in some areas but not all. Employee must have normal field of vision corrected to 20/40 in each eye and must have hearing sufficient to safely operate material handling equipment in a manufacturing/distribution environment. This position requires a pre-employment physical exam.
