The BD Excellence & Business Transformation team is seeking a Director, BD Excellence Deploymentfor BD's Medication Management Solutions (MMS) business unit.

This critical leadership role willbe responsible for leading the integration and strategic design/implementation of BD Excellence across MMS. The role will guide theBD Excellenceleads– a federation of embedded and highly influential leadersresponsible for deploying BD Excellence standards for commercial, innovation, operations, business process, and leadership excellence to the various functions of MMS through best-in-class organizational change programs, training, and hands-on coaching. This individual must have deep expertise in the concepts of lean across various business functions with years of experience as an operator or change practitioner in a proven lean-based business system. 

The Director will lead high-impact initiatives such asbuilding the MMS deployment capability and driving targeted deployment strategies aligned to MMS’s strategic priorities, ensuring MMS builds capabilities to achieve best-in-class operational and financial performanceyear-over-year. This role requires a credible and highly influential leader capable of autonomously engaging executive-level stakeholders, mentoringhigh-potential leaders, and collaborating to designsystematic solutions aligned with BD’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Team Mentorship

  • Guide and mentor the MMS BD Excellenceleads, fostering a culture of excellence, leadership, and collaboration, and equipping leads for their next leadership roles.

  • Provide both formal and informal instruction and coaching while collaborating closely with corporate BD Excellence transformation office to equip leads on BD Excellence practices and lean fundamentals.

  • Empowerleads to develop targeted transformation objectives and strategies to accelerate the adoption of BD Excellence capabilities.

  • Drive accountability for achieving improvement outcomes that align with MMS’s strategic priorities.

Business System Design

  • Collaborate with cross-functionalteamsacross operations, finance, platforms, quality, regulatory, technology, medical affairs, service, and global commercial functions to blueprint scalable business system practices and tools.

  • Identifystructural and systemic challenges and drive problem solving to redesign and implement solutions aligned to MMS’s strategic priorities.

  • Collaborate with corporate BD Excellence transformation office and MMS business unit leadership to establish a center of excellence for the promotion and continuous improvement of MMS’s applied BD Excellence standards.

Deployment Strategy

  • Manage transformation roadmap with broad and targetedinitiativesto enhance BD Excellence capabilities and enable continuous improvement in revenue, gross profit, quality, and customer experience, aligned with MMS’s strategic priorities and each functions goals and capacity for change.

  • Coordinate targeted functional deployment strategies and initiatives, partnering with functional leaders and deployment leads to ensure BD Excellence practices and tools are effectively used to drive improvements in business performance.

  • Promote Breakthrough problem solving and Kaizen Events, and coordinate training and coaching programs to build BD Excellence capabilities across MMS.

Organizational Change

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior executives and cross-functional leaders to secure alignment and support for key initiatives, inclusive of the Global MMS Leadership Team.

  • Partner with communications staff to promoteBD Excellence activities, use cases, improvement impact, and change stories.

  • Leverage organizational change strategiesand promote experiential and peer-to-peer learning to influence participation, collaboration, and commitment.

Operational Excellence

  • Establish an internal organizational capability for continuous learning and continuous improvement of practitioner methods, tools, and techniques. 

  • Continuously scan the internal company (within BD) and outside the organization (across industry groups and benchmarks) to identify best-in-classand push the broader team to achieve excellence.

  • Ensure all initiatives are completed time, within budget, and deliver measurable outcomes in line with MMS’s goals.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Engineering, or a related field.

  • MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Leanbusiness operations, management consulting, or commercial effectiveness.

  • 3+ years of experience working within business operations or as part of the transformation office at an organization operating a Lean Business System.

  • 5+ years of experience directly leading and coaching teams.

  • 3+ years of experienceinfluencing change with executive-level (including C-Suite) stakeholders.

Skills

  • Strong outcomes-orientation with proven ability to enable scaled impact.

  • Sophisticated interpersonal and English-language communication skills to influence senior leaders across a matrixed organization.

  • Forward-thinking, thrives in ambiguity, and demonstrates a pragmatic approach to organizational change.

  • Strong customer focus with ability to think strategically and view the business from a general management and commercial leadership standpoint.

  • Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to develop and inspire others to achieve their full potential.

  • Significant practitioner experience in functions/areas supporting commercial and operational excellence.

Location

  • This is a remote role; however, requires regular presence in San Diego office and project-based travel to various sites

  • Travel up to 50%, with domestic and international travel.
