Job Description Summary
GIE Sr. Molding Manager is responsible for Molding equipment design (molds and molding cells), molding equipment build (design reviews/approvals), FAT/SAT, equipment validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) and external supplier management (equipment replacement plan, equipment maintenance, molds performance) across the MDS BU and is positioned to ensure that the company's component design, supply, cost, etc. are aligned to MDS business expectations. Act as the main point of contact for MDS BU for molding equipment questions and technical support.This leadership position provides expert engineering skill, judgement, and mentoring of other engineers. He/she is responsible for the plastics injection molding portfolio covering all MDS products.
This role will oversee the planning, coordination and oversight in the development and implementation of replacement molds and related validation activities as well as external molding suppliers management.

Main responsibilities include:
Mold design/development:
Responsible for molding equipment build activities included but not limited to URS, vendor selection, PO creation, mold design reviews, follow up with supplier on mold build status milestones, FOT, FAT, and SAT activities.
Build competitive advantage through the leverage of manufacturing process technology.
Create capital appropriation documents CB-2.
Coordinate with peers in MDS BU to ensure adequate resources to support mold build activities
GIE Molding Manager will contribute to the innovative process and first equipment development for the MDS BU new products development and industrialization.
Managing MDS GIE molding team including engineers with mold design, project management and processing skills.
Leads suppliers and external design teams (vendor) for larger capital projects to manage cost, lead time and scope.
Molds/Molding Cell Machine retrofits, upgrades of existing equipment.
Partnerships with procurement for vendor selection.
Ensure that BDX mold and hot runner build standards are used for new equipment build.
Molding equipment process development and validation:
Responsible for molding equipment validation at BD sites and support validation at external suppliers including IQ, OQ, and PQ.
Responsible for Molding equipment production ramp-up to ensure required OEE is achieved (OEE by equipment design)
Work with site and BU quality, R&D, and engineering teams to ensure timely equipment to production release
Support in Developing and executing the Process Technology Strategy for MDS BU’s
Participate to the manufacturing process technology strategy as a key driver for competitive advantage: based on current and future customer and market expectations and trends in terms of quality, service, and cost; planned BD product developments and business expectations for growth, profitability and return on investment.
Prioritizes work, aligns the organization, and completes the plan to deliver the defined process improvement results on time and within budget.
Process Development (Quality, Efficiency and Harmonization): Ensure effective prioritization, planning and development of global process development activities to use the installed base of manufacturing technology to meet customer (quality) and business (efficiency) needs, as part of the Technology Strategy.
Ensure the related risk management creation or update activities execution.
Ensures the adequate necessary equipment documentation are created and always up to date.
Ensure collaboration among the GIE community to facilitate sharing of standard methodology between plants and BU on local CI process improvements and ensure WW compliance to global process specifications.
Complete the plan to deliver global process development which meet or exceed required specifications and efficiency requirements on time and within budget.
External Molding Supplier Support:
Molding equipment Lifecycle & Performance Management for external suppliers
Acts as main contact person from GIE molding for MDS BU needs
MDS BU technical support for external suppliers and mold health assessment
MDS BU support for Capital appreciation request for new equipment or refurbishment recommendation
Functional Leadership & People Development:
Lead engineering team consists of ~12 engineers that support all molding activities for MDS BU Communicate clear priorities and objectives.
Build a truly inclusive team organization which uses the capabilities across MDS BU Provide leadership which drives engagement, performance, and results from every associate.
Responsible for communicating assigned projects with the appropriate personnel and departments. Leads engineers and technicians to complete projects.
Support operations during a production crisis. (quality, supplier, etc.)
Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

Molding equipment built, validated, and released per project timeline
Achieved targeted OEE and waste results
Capital spend management with 95% or better accuracy
Improved equipment efficiency and reduced downtime
Ensure that the equipment design meets safety, operational standards, and validation from respective stakeholders.
Leadership and communications:
Navigates BU/GIE/site dynamics; secures commitments; resolves conflicts.
Talent & Capability Building- Develop diverse engineering team capable of executing end to end molding projects.
Deliver the results
Develops Strategies, Collaborates and Communicates with:
- - Product Design Team (PPD and R&D): to ensure product is designed to enable a mfg. process which can produce product efficiently (target COGS) and to required quality standards.
- - Unit/Site Quality Team: to ensure that equip. is designed/manufactured in compliance with regulatory requirements/industry standards.
- - Manufacturing Team: to ensure that equipment is designed for efficient production, and to support mfg. process.
- - Maintenance/Engineering Team: to ensure max. equip. uptime, and that equip. is designed for easy maintenance/repair
Minimum Education:
B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering or Plastics preferred).
MBA or MS in Engineering, Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean manufacturing are a plus.
Experience:
10+ years in mold design / procurement and plastics processing experience is required
Tooling design experience of injection molds is required
Proficiency in SolidWorks and understanding of Mold Flow Analysis tools is desired
Excellent technical skills include project management, organization, planning, and capital budgets relating to mold procurement and verification.
Demonstrated ability to apply problem solving and data analysis methods.
Previous experience with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), ISO standards and Lean Manufacturing concepts desired.
Experience in an FDA regulated quality environment desired.
Experience leading projects end to end.
People leadership skills
Strong communication skills Risk analysis / FMEA Statistical analysis / SPC system
Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities, and to develop and maintain tool qualification schedules.
Other:
Able to act in multicultural environment and worldwide matrix organizations.
Frequent international and domestic travel up to 25%.
