Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Manager of Engineering, PLM, with strong technical and delivery leadership skills, a proven track record of executing complex programs, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for quality, agility, and continuous improvement. In this role, you will lead engineering execution by managing and coordinating ADx Systems, Systems Test, and Hardware resources assigned to one or more projects or product areas in support of Advanced Diagnostics Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) objectives.

This role is accountable for delivery, prioritization, and effective use of engineering resources working on assigned projects, while partnering with functional homes that retain responsibility for people management, technical standards, and competency development. Success in this role requires strong execution discipline, cross‑functional collaboration, and the ability to translate project objectives into clear, actionable plans.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads planning, execution, and delivery of assigned technical programs and sustaining activities from concept through implementation in alignment with business priorities.

  • Coordinates and manages engineering resources assigned to projects, ensuring clarity of scope, priorities, schedules, and deliverables.

  • Works closely with ADx Engineering functional homes, PMO, and Marketing partners to align project needs with available resources and capabilities.

  • Collaborates with cross‑functional stakeholders (Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Service, Medical Affairs, etc.) to identify technical and program risks and drive timely resolution.

  • Provides day‑to‑day project leadership for assigned teams, including task coordination, dependency management, and progress tracking.

  • Escalates resourcing constraints, schedule risks, and technical issues as appropriate, and supports trade‑off discussions to maintain delivery commitments.

  • Provides technical leadership and problem‑solving support for complex issues, leveraging functional subject‑matter experts as needed to drive effective solutions aligned with project objectives.

  • Maintains awareness of relevant diagnostic platforms and technologies to inform execution approaches and integration considerations.

  • Partners with technical and functional leadership to ensure project execution aligns with established processes, standards, and toolchains.

  • Ensures requirements, high‑level design documentation, integration plans, and other Design History File elements are completed and maintained in compliance with BD product development processes and policies.

  • Supports planning and execution of system verification and validation activities in coordination with Quality and Test Engineering partners.

  • Applies DFSS and Technology Development best practices to manage technical risk and support robust, reliable product solutions.

  • Supports transition activities from R&D into manufacturing and contributes to issue resolution for products in the field as needed.

  • Represents assigned projects in cross‑functional forums and contributes to alignment across teams to achieve program goals.

  • Promotes knowledge sharing, technical rigor, and continuous improvement within the scope of assigned projects.

Minimum Qualifications – Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience executing Systems Engineering‑based development for in vitro diagnostic or other regulated products

  • Experience managing project scope, schedules, dependencies, and engineering deliverables in matrixed environments

  • Working knowledge of automation, data acquisition, and statistical or analytical methods

  • Familiarity with diagnostic instrumentation such as liquid handlers, analyzers, and incubation systems

  • Experience supporting development of lab or industrial automation equipment preferred

  • Experience with requirements and specification management in FDA‑regulated environments

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience working effectively across functional organizations without direct line authority

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline

  • Approximately 8–12 years of relevant engineering experience, including demonstrated project or program leadership
